In the 2014-15 season, she was an Emerging Artist with Virginia Opera. Ms. Gilbert’s operatic roles include Pamina in Die Zauberﬂöte, Rose Maybud in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore, Patience in Patience, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Despina in Così fan tutte, Flora in Britten's The Turn of the Screw, Rosmene in Handel’s Imeneo, Emily in Ned Rorem’s Our Town, and Damigella in L'incoronazione di Poppea.
Ms. Gilbert frequently performs new music and has recently been seen on the concert stage performing Edgard Varèse’s Offrandes with the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble and Ferenc Farkas’Gyümölcskosár with the Montreal Contemporary Wind Ensemble. She often works in collaboration with her brother Daniel, a talented young composer, and has premiered many of his works in concert to rave reviews, including his most recent song cycle, "Three Songs for Children," to the poetry of Lewis Carroll.
Sarah was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a student of mezzo-soprano Julie Simson in her undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder where she was a two time ﬁnalist and one time winner of the Anderson Competition and winner of the Presser Academic Performance Award. During her time in Boulder she also won ﬁrst prize in the Boulder Philharmonic Young Artist Concerto Competition, performed with Colorado Light Opera, and sang numerous cantatas and other sacred works with Grace Lutheran Church under the baton of Joyce Kull. Sarah went on to earn her Masters of Music in Opera Performance from McGill University where she studied with acclaimed soprano Aline Kutan and was awarded the Schulich Scholarship and Graduate Excellence Fellowship.
In the recent past, Ms. Gilbert was an Eastern Region Finalist and 1st Alternate for the national round of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Award competition and a Finalist in the Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition. She now resides in New York City where she is a apprentice master teacher at Performers Career Center under the tutelage of Voice Physiologist Patrick Michael Wickham.
Praised for her vocal agility and dramatic versatility, American soprano Sarah Gilbert gives powerful performances on both the operatic and concert stage. She has performed with Utopia Opera, Opera Company of Brooklyn, and the Blue Hill Troupe in New York City as well as numerous summer festivals, including American Landmark Festivals in Geneva, New York and Vancouver Summer Opera Studio. Internationally, she has performed in Italy at Teatro Bramante and the Palazzo Brancaleoni in Piobbico.
