PROFESSIONAL
Professional-level singers have achieved a technical competency at or above the level of the most rigorous vocal demands of their industry. These singers are able to perform eight or more shows per week without fatigue or vocal injury. While often considered "triple threats," their vocalism is usually regarded at their best trait. Most have studied well over ten (10) years and are skilled in multiple genres. They often have experience in principal roles on Broadway, in major opera houses and concert halls all over the world. Commercial singers rarely meet the technical requirements for this level of vocalism, but the demands of that industry rarely dictate the necessity for such intense vocal development. Professional-level singers display the following traits:
- Performance experience in principal and supporting roles on Broadway, in major opera houses and concerts
- Full-time professional chorus experience with solo engagements
- Flawless pitch accuracy and the ability to harmonize accurately within dissonant chord structures
- Excellent skill in sight-reading, rhythm and ear training
- Ability to sustain a held tone throughout the extremes of their range with no perceived variance
- Ability to sing at any volume, on any vowel in entire range
- Complete control of registration with the ability to alter and mix dominance of head and chest functions.
- Extreme range often surpassing the accepted standards (e.g., baritone with access to tenor notes)
- Consistent, spinning vibrato at a rate of 5-7 pulses per second throughout entire range and at low volumes
- Laryngeal movement completely uninhibited by tongue gripping or elevation during difficult passages
- Total focus on song interpretation. All technique is innate and integrated into flawless acting ability
