Last week marked the end of my Sing Every Day challenge.  Was it a success?  I think it was  eye-opening in terms of how I prioritize my vocal work and organize my responsibilities.  I found that I sing a lot less than I thought I did, and that it has become much harder to fit singing into my schedule now.  However, I did feel much more accomplished when I managed to sing most days of the week.  I also learned that I much prefer to sing when I am in a practice room or studio, rather than at home.  I like being in a separate space - it helps me focus and have a more productive vocal work-out.  While I don't always have that luxury, I can try to manage my practice at home in a way that helps me focus.  I did find that keeping an eye on my singing guided me to more activities that allowed me to sing, like auditions and singing with friends.  I think my vocal routine is a work in progress, but I am glad that this challenge shed some light on my priorities and practicing ethic.  Happy singing!

This week is going to be a good week.  I can feel it in my bones.  Spring is springing, the sun is shining, and I am going to sing every day!

Let's recap...last week was not looking so good for the singing, however, as my friend Jesi told me, that IS part of this challenge.  Sometimes it is just not going to happen, and that's ok.

Friday:  Jesi and I had another 6 hour Caba-J meeting.  Super productive, but no singing practice.
Saturday: I was a productivity master today!  I woke up, cleaned the house, sang and went to yoga all before noon!  And then I went to work!  Woot!
Sunday:  Sunday funday double, so no singing.

Here we go week four!

Monday: I got in a good vocal warm-up today, and did a lot of muscle work.
Today I have a voice lesson, so I will definitely have a vocal work-out.

This is the last week of my singing challenge, and I am going to make it a good one!

I made myself sing yesterday.  I so super duper did not want to sing.  But I made myself.  It was an ok work-out, I was very tired, but I did attack my muscles a bit and do some vocal warm-ups.

Today I am running all around the city, and hopefully will sneak in a quick vocal warm-up before I go to work, but I am not sure if it's going to happen.

Through this challenge, I realize that I put my vocal warm-ups last on my list of priorities.  I view it as something flexible, and owed only to myself.  If I don't practice, I am letting myself down, and that's ok, right...?  I realize there is something problematic with this line of thought, but I am having trouble re-arranging my priorities so singing places higher on my list.

Friday's audition went pretty well in terms of timing!  I managed to fit my audition in before a meeting, and I fit in a great vocal warm-up before I sang!  I worked on some more legit material, which i haven't done in a long time.  I have been working on more contemporary songs, and this audition reminded me that I need to get some more lyric soprano material in my audition book!

Saturday and Sunday were a bust.  I was home before work on Saturday, but apartment was full of a brunchers, and Sunday was my usual double (woo!), so I was unable to sing.

Friday's meeting concerned a cabaret series that my friend Jesi and I have been planning.  We had our first installment in December, and it looks like we will be doing our next one in April.  So Monday I didn't get any singing done, but we did have a 6 hour meeting about our cabaret!  I will be learning lots of new material in the coming month!

Today I am playing the EPA game.  I forgot that it's really my least favorite game of all time, as I am non-union.  However, I have already warmed up in preparation for the audition, AND I have a voice lesson in a bit....Does this make up for Monday, since I am singing twice today...?

As I said in my last post, this week looks crazy, but hopefully I can fit in some more singing!

Til next time,

Julia
