Wickham Vocal Studios at Performers Career Center is now accepting applications for the following FACULTY positions:

  • Voice Instructor (musical theater and crossover specialist)
  • Voice Instructor (contemporary/commercial music specialist)
  • Guitar/Songwriting Instructor
  • Vocal Repertoire Coach (musical theater)
  • Substitute Voice Instructors/Vocal Coaches (standby shifts)

PREREQUISITES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Interested applicants, please read the minimum prerequisites CAREFULLY below.  If you do not fit the following requirements, please do not apply:

All Instructors

  1. Bachelors of Music (M.M. preferred) in your respective instrument from an accredited and field-respected conservatory or university program.
  2. Teaching experience in either a major conservatory or university program or in a private studio program for more than three years.
  3. Significant performance experience in your respective field (resume required)
  4. A positive and perpetually-optimistic attitude
  5. Open-mindedness toward new ideas and training
  6. Current member of N.Y.S.T.A. (we will sponsor your membership if you are not currently a member)

 

Voice Instructor (musical theater and crossover specialist)

  1. Significant knowledge of musical theater repertoire and history (including prominent performers, producers and composers)
  2. Significant professional stage experience in legit and contemporary musical theater
  3. Advanced knowledge of registration concepts and voice physiology (training available)
  4. Strong industry contacts in the musical theater field
  5. SIGNIFICANT PIANO SIGHT-READING ABILITY (you will be accompanying your students)

 

Voice Instructor (contemporary voice specialist)

  1. Significant knowledge of contemporary music repertoire, especially R&B, pop, rock and contemporary musical theater (including prominent performers, producers and composers)
  2. Significant stage and/or recording experience in commercial music
  3. Affiliations with BMI and/or ASCAP recommended (but not required)
  4. Strong industry contacts in the commercial music field
  5. Advanced knowledge of articulation and voice physiology (training available)
  6. ADEQUATE PIANO SIGHT-READING ABILITY and ability to read charts (you will be accompanying your students)
  7. Saturday availability a plus!

 

Vocal Repertoire Coach (specialist in all styles from classical to commercial)

  1. Superior knowledge of music repertoire in the commercial, classical and musical theater genres, especially Contemporary Musical Theater, lesser-known musicals, and obscure commercial and classical music
  2. Excellent repertoire of lesser-known audition material (especially for musical theatre)
  3. Ability to quickly and accurately profile students for ideal repertoire based on voice type, personality and physical appearance
  4. Superior piano skills as an accompanist and flawless sight-reading ability
  5. Strong professional experience as a music director (primarily in musical theater and opera)
  6. Good knowledge of voice technique and voice physiology
  7. Superior diction and command of I.P.A.
  8. Strong professional resume as an accompanist (major Broadway and/or operatic houses a plus)

 

Substitute Voice Instructors and Coaches

  1. Significant knowledge of commercial, musical theater and classical repertoire
  2. Significant stage experience in one or more of the above genres
  3. Advanced knowledge of articulation and voice physiology (training available)
  4. EXCELLENT PIANO SIGHT-READING ABILITY (you will be accompanying your students)
  5. Highly flexible schedule required!

 

Guitar/Songwriting Instructor

  1. Extensive performance experience with solo guitar (not just band gigs)
  2. Excellent command and knowledge of music theory not limited to commercial styles (all applicants will be tested)
  3. Some piano proficiency required
  4. Must be able to provide extensive materials (visual aids, workbooks, etc.)

Upon hiring, all teachers will be presented with a probationary roster (four-student minimum).  This roster will be expanded based on studio demand for your specialty.  Contract bonuses are available for student retention and studio promotion.  Substitute teachers must be able to sit in on current lessons to acclimate themselves with the program.  All voice faculty must be registered (or may register upon being hired) with the New York Singing Teachers Association as well as the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
