Malaika Sims Alvaro
Novice and Intermediate Singing Technique

A highly-accomplished teacher and vocalist, Ms. Alvaro's career began as a church cantor and soloist before her interests steered toward studies in classical music and legit musical theatre.  She has since sung lead soprano roles in many of the major national and international houses productions in opera and musical theatre under the batons of Stefan Kozinsky, Zoltan Papp, John Yaffe, Kenneth Merrell, Michael Cordovana and Susan Morton and under the direction of directors including Edward Berkeley, Rhoda Levine, Elizabeth Grahm, Nicholas Garr and Carol Castel.

A finalist in the Paul Robeson vocal competition, she has won numerous awards and scholarships including the Philo Highley, Irene Diamond and Francis Schumann scholarships and the Gluck Fellowship.

Ms. Sims has served as the director of the voice department for the Long Island Conservatory as well as the artistic director of Soyulla Artists.  Her students have been professionally engaged in professional opera companies and accepted into major voice conservatory programs including Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, et. al.

Ms. Sims holds an M.M. from Manhattan School of Music, a B.M. from The Juilliard School and a professional performance certificate from the American University of Paris.
